When you're sick in Japan

by - 4:42 AM

Sorry for not updating much, I just caught a flue and it's really difficult for me to even turn on the pc.
Anyway since we are talking about it, do you know what japanese people do when they're sick?

Firstly, when they go out they always wear these face-masks. This prevent you to spread germs. Also you're not allowed to sneeze or blow your nose in public, because in Japan it's very rude.
It's strange but every Country has its way of doing things and we have to respect that. So when you have a cold but you have to go out, always wear a face-mask and absolutely don't do the above things, even if Gaijin (foreign people) have it a bit easier -since they don't know live in Japan and don't know the traditions-.

They sell packs of face-masks everywhere so it's not difficult to find them. (thanks to tokyo insider.net for the picture)

While, when you're at home other than oblivious things like staying in bed and warm, one of japanese tradition is to eat hot rice porridge, 'Okayu' in japanese. (click on the link to see the recipe of japanese rice porrdige)

Also you put an ice pack on your forehead, like this:

You can find really a lot of ice packs types. Like cartoons ones, for kids, and other of whatever shape or colour. It's a ongoing business in Japan.

There are a lot of ice packs for forehead, depending of what you're suffering from. So, wide range of choice.

Otherwise you can buy the traditional one, it's made of cloth and you can put in as much ice as you want.

Thanks to aliexpress and lugbuy for the pictures.
